“The Teacher Appreciation Banquet” is a masterpiece exploring the struggles, compromises, and perseverance of two generations of Malaysians caught between their ideals and reality. Adapted from the short story by Lai Kok Fung, it is brought to life by director Seng Soo Ming, playwrights Eden Wan & Seng Soo Ming, and producer Pam Lim.
Since its premiere in 2023, the play has received rave reviews and resonated deeply with audiences. It also triumphed at the 19th ADA Drama Awards, winning Best Leading Actor and Best Supporting Actress, with major nominations for Best Director, Best Original Script, and Best Stage Design.
It is incredibly rare for a Malaysian Chinese theatre production to have multiple reruns. Yet, thanks to its sweeping historical narrative and delicate emotional tension, “The Teacher Appreciation Banquet” has had three successful runs in 2023, 2024 and 2026.
This latest season was a charity performance held in conjunction with the Malaysian Social Entrepreneurs Foundation (MSEF)’s annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
