In 1982, the Home Away from Home song was composed for the ASEAN Scholar batch of 1982–1983 — with music by Lai Kok Fung and lyrics by Lian Siew Chin and Kenny Sin. The song captured the spirit, bonds, and dreams of a group of young scholars who left their families to study in Singapore, building lasting friendships and life-changing memories together.
More than four decades later, we want to bring this song back to life through a professional audio recording and a music video, as a tribute to our youth and those transformative years. This project will not only preserve our shared history but also celebrate the enduring ties of our ASEAN Scholar community.
To manage and oversee the project, a committee has been formed consisting of Lai Kok Fung, Lian Siew Chin, Kuladeva, and Koh Chu Guan. The project will be managed through Jayon Inc, a company formed by Lai Kok Fung.
We invite contributions from members of the 82–83 batch to support this effort.
Estimated Project Cost
- Professional Music Production: S$2,500
- Music Video: S$2,500 (simple version) or S$7,500 (elaborate version)
Any unused contributions will be donated to recipients decided collectively by the contributors.
